This title was written by John Carbone, MD, the Chief of Psychiatry and Mental Health Services for the North Carolina Department of Corrections. It is intended to provide attorneys with a basic knowledge of psychiatry to assist in working with offenders with mental illness. It is divided into seven sections which focus on mental illness classification, how individuals are diagnosed, disorders such as depression and anxiety, personality disorders, psychotropic medications, fabrication of symptoms, and risk assessments of future dangerousness for legal purposes.
