Respected author Philip L. Bruner provides the introduction to this book. He traces the history of nonjudicial dispute resolution methods in the construction industry. The first uniform contract promulgated in 1888 by the American Institute of Architects "mandated binding, nonjudicial resolutions of disputes." The construction industry still prefers to use alternatives to litigation because of the need for speedy results so the work can resume. This book explains the various forms of arbitration and mediation and looks at the methods from the perspectives of the various stakeholders. Written and edited by working experts, this volume provides a thorough examination of dispute resolution in the construction industry.
