Foreclosure: A legal research guide

June 6, 2016

Feature

The librarians have created a Foreclosure research guide in order to provide information about the Texas and federal laws on foreclosure as well as options for homeowners facing foreclosure. There you will find links to the text of Texas and federal law dealing with mortgages as well as resources that explain these laws in “plain English.”

Our guide highlights useful e-books, articles, and other digital resources that you can view from home (some of which require a library account) such as:

  • Facing Foreclosure [PDF], a publication from the Texas Young Lawyers Association, provides an overview of Texas foreclosure law.
  • Foreclosure Survival Guide (Nolo e-book) is a practical guide with information on the ins and outs of foreclosure procedures, how to decide whether or not you should try to keep your house, and how to avoid “rescue scams.”
  • Foreclosures and Mortgage Servicing (NCLC e-book) includes information about legal defenses to home foreclosures, defending foreclosures by challenging unfair lending practices, using bankruptcy to prevent foreclosure, and more!

If you have a question or would like more information about any of our legal research guides, feel free to Ask a Librarian!
