The Second Amendment : a biography
Written by the president of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, this is an engaging title for anyone interested in the history of the “right to bear arms.” The author begins the narrative in 1775 and continues through the adoption of the Second Amendment in 1791. He then traces throughout American history how the public, the courts, and organizations like the NRA have interpreted the amendment. In the final part of the book, he discusses how the 2008 landmark Supreme Court case D.C. v. Heller changed the legal landscape and follows through to present day, including a discussion of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
