Historical Texas Statutes: A Research Guide

February 25, 2013

Feature

The Texas State Law Library reference librarians created legal research guides for specific areas of the law. These guides contain resources that can help you research a legal issue.

The library's guide to historical statutes and constitutions provides an overview of the resources available in the library and online for locating the text of older session laws, codes, and constitutions. The resources in this guide cover the period from 1822 until the present. Because the Texas statutes have been reorganized over time and there is limited online access to prior law, it can be challenging to understand how the law read as of a specific date in the past. If you need assistance locating historical Texas statutes, contact us at (512) 463-1722 or submit a question using our Ask a Librarian service.

Apart from our historical statutes and constitutions guide, we also invite you to view all of our legal research guides.
