Raffles, Contests, and Sweepstakes: a legal research guide
February 29, 2016
Feature
We recently published a new Raffles, Contests, and Sweepstakes research guide. This guide provides an overview of the resources available online and through our library pertaining to the Texas laws on raffles, contests, and sweepstakes.
The guide links to the laws as well as to other resources that discuss contests, sweepstakes, and raffles in “plain English,” which can be easier to understand than complex legal language.
We also highlight useful e-books, articles, and other digital resources that you can download from home (some of which require a library account) such as:
- Gaming law in a nutshell, an e-book by West that covers all gambling law—tribal, state, federal, and international—including casinos, lotteries, poker, sports betting, racing and Internet gaming
- Prize scams, information from the FTC about prize scams such as fake lotteries, fake check scams, and text message prize offers
- Charities & Nonprofits: Charitable Raffles, information from the the Texas Attorney General discussing the Charitable Raffle Enabling Act
