VitalLaw Database Is Now Available

Feature July 29, 2025

Great news! The VitalLaw database is now available to library patrons. The library's subscription focuses on two main subjects:

  • Elder and Estates Law
  • Section 1983 Litigation
The practice materials include guidebooks, checklists, and forms.

Elder and Estates Law

The Elder and Estates Law section includes information on topics like:

  • estate planning;
  • estate taxes;
  • setting up a trust;
  • retirement benefits; and
  • long-term care.

For most patrons, we recommend the Elder Law Answer Book to start with. It’s written in an easy-to-follow Q&A format.

Section 1983 Litigation

The Section 1983 Litigation materials include information on lawsuits under U.S. Code Title 42, Section 1983. Topics include:

  • legal claims and defenses;
  • constitutional and statutory rights;
  • evidence; and
  • the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure.

For additional Section 1983 materials, see the library’s Recommended Books & E-Books on Civil Rights.

You can access VitalLaw and other databases with your library username and password. A library account is free for Texas residents.

As always, the library is happy to assist you with any questions.
