Additional Federal Funding
On March 14th, 2022, the U.S. Department of Treasury allocated additional limited COVID-19 emergency rental assistance funding for state and local governments to distribute. The Texas Rent Relief Program, a COVID-19 emergency rental assistance program administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), will be receiving an additional $47.8 million to help address the backlog of assistance requests.
No New Applications Accepted
The TRR application portal closed in November of 2021, and TRR is not currently accepting any new applications. The new funding will be used to review and process the applications filed before the November 2021 deadline. Tenants who still have a pending application on file with TRR should be on the lookout for a status update soon via email or by phone. Applications will be processed in the order they were received, with priority given to tenants facing an upcoming eviction hearing. See TRR's website for an explanation of the four categories of pending applications.
