Want to view the Restatements of the Law, but can't visit the library in person? Great news! Our library is excited to now offer e-book versions of American Law Institute titles. This includes Restatements of the Law, Principles of the Law, the Model Penal Code, and Concise Restatements.

The Restatements are a series of treatises that provide an in-depth summary of the reasoning and principles within a given legal topic. Each Restatement includes “black letter” rules, comments, and illustrations based on relevant statutes and case law. Reporter’s Notes also provide background and development for various concepts.

Some notable Restatements include: 

• employment law
• property law (including landlord and tenant, wills, and mortgages)
• torts (including products liability and apportionment of liability)
• contracts

The Principles of the Law series also summarizes the law, but it is more guidance-minded. These titles outline best practices and recommendations for various stakeholders in the field.  The series includes:

• family dissolution
• intellectual property
• data privacy
